Day One in Malaysia

Well here we are, Day 1 in Kuala Lumpur on the Mega Tech Mission in Malaysia! It’s a truly beautiful city with many trees, undoubtedly hot,  and we have received a very warm welcome.

The day started with a briefing from conference organisers and officials including Deborah Clark, the Director of Trade and Investment from the Department for International Trade, and Sridaran Sabapathy from the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce.

We were informed of the fast paced growing Malaysian IT market. It has become clear that Malaysia has a need for advanced IT skills and they clearly have the ambition to become an International IT Power House. With a plethora of multi-industry projects under way, Malaysia is a vibrant and developing market place. UK companies, like us here at Humber IT, are ideally placed to offer highly sort after skills and are in a prime position to deliver these to the market.

The day proceeded with 7 carefully matched business meetings in which we discovered both local and international market opportunities. Other networking opportunities, including course fabulous meal and a drinks reception, allowed further contacts to be made and potential business links to be formed.

On a personal note, we have met some inspiring people who will be following up with both professionally and socially. We have found the Malaysian people warm and pleasant – just like the climate!

After such a successful first day, we eagerly await the opportunities that tomorrow will bring.

Countdown To Malaysia

With the UK Tech Mission to Malaysia just a few days away, excitement is growing here in the Humber IT office. We have just attended the final Malaysia Briefing Webinar with IT business colleagues from across the UK.

Keith Grant from the Department of International Trade, hosted the meeting to update us on our events timetable. Meetings have been arranged with carefully selected Malaysian companies that match our business needs providing us with a fantastic opportunity to discover how we can benefit each other.

The Senior Trade Manager for the British High Commission, Shuba Karun, explained Malaysia is one of the UK’s key 10 priority markets. She went on to describe the overwhelming interest and support she has received ahead of this mission to Kuala Lumpur. More than 250 guests, including senior officials, are expected at the Department of Trade Technology Awards Ceremony which looks to be an enjoyable and motivating first evening.

Personally, it is the second evening that I am most looking forward to – dinner at the Sultan of Selangor’s Palace. It’s an opportunity to network with Malaysian government officials and strategic business leaders –  all in the luxurious surroundings of the palace!

Lizzie – Our Staff

We would like to formally introduce new Humber IT employee Lizzie, who joined the team over the summer. Some of you will already have met her at networking events such as at the Hull Business Culture event on-board the Pride of Hull ferry, or over the phone offering first line IT support.

The Vertical

The UK Government Department for International Trade (DIT) is leading the Mission to Malaysia to provide UK technology companies (including Humber IT) links with Malaysian industry leaders. This involves tailored 1-2-1 meetings and exclusive networking events with key Malaysian companies driving the expanding Asian market.

We are particularly looking forward to promoting our cloud services and demonstrating the wide reaching benefits. With the recent addition of our Silver Microsoft Partner award interest in our products and services has increased greatly.

Not only will we be building relationships with Malaysian companies, but we get the chance to really endorse the Humber region as an innovative and secure place for other UK companies to conduct their business.

The event will take place at The Vertical in Kuala Lumpur with visits to the Place of The Sultan of Salengor and Johar Bahru in southern Malaysia.

We will be posting more updates about the Mission, so please check back soon.

Mega Mission to Malaysia 2017

Humber IT, one of East Yorkshire’s leading IT providers, has been selected by the Department for Trade and Industry to represent British technology companies at the UK Mega Technology Mission to Malaysia in October 2017.

Humber IT will be part of a delegation of 50 companies, including leading UK names such as BAE Systems, travelling to Kuala Lumpur this autumn. The purpose of the visit is to showcase British technological expertise to the Malaysian market. Organised by the Department for International Trade, in conjunction with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the British High Commission in Malaysia, Humber IT hopes to help drum up business for the UK and for the Humber region.

As well as a trade fair and a reception at the Palace of the Sultan of Selangor, Humber IT will also be meeting with pre-selected Malaysian companies who have expressed an interest in working with British companies who offer cloud computing solutions.

‘The beauty of the cloud,’ said Humber IT’s Lead Consultant, Phil Paterson, ‘is that it is truly borderless. The web is changing the way people do business – you don’t need to be down the street any more. If you’ve got the right skills you can offer them to customers anywhere in the world. It’s making the world much smaller.’

Humber IT are based at The One Business Village in Hull and are a licensed Microsoft Silver Partner which is why they were invited to explain and promote the benefits of cloud computing to the Malaysian market.

But why Malaysia? ‘There are cities being built in Malaysia,’ Phil Paterson explained, ‘which are being constructed from the ground up as ‘smart’ cities. These cities have the latest technologies built in as standard, so that traffic, people and even individual items can be tracked and managed to help run the city more effectively. These cities need experts with an understanding of what technologies are required – and that’s where we come in.’

Silver Partner

Hull IT company becomes Microsoft Silver Partner

If you’re not a computer expert then how do know if an IT support company can actually do what they say they can do?

As a business owner you need to know your IT systems are reliable and secure, but your eyes probably start to glaze over when people begin talking about hardware integration or cloud computing. That’s why Microsoft’s Partner Network has become the way around the world of ensuring an organisation’s competency – with IT companies gaining accreditation directly from Microsoft, from the one of the world’s most trusted computing companies.

Humber IT Ltd, one of East Yorkshire’s leading IT firms based at C4Di in Hull, have just gained Microsoft Silver Partner Status for Small and Midmarket Cloud Solutions Competency. This means that Microsoft certifies that Humber IT can provide a range of Microsoft cloud computing solutions for businesses with up to 5,000 employees.

We’ve been a Microsoft Partner since we started,’ said Phil Paterson, Humber IT’s Lead Consultant. ‘We’re very proud to reach this level, as we’re the only company this side of Leeds with this certification.

To gain Silver Partner status, Humber IT had to pass exams in a range of Microsoft cloud software, as well as demonstrate competency in migrating systems such as email and file storage to the cloud through submitting verified case studies and client feedback.

Most people assume cloud computing is expensive, but this isn’t the case anymore,’ added Phil Paterson. ‘We tend to just think of large corporates using the cloud, but that power can now be brought to small and medium sized businesses.

As more and more small and medium sized businesses in the Humber area discover the power of cloud computing, it’s certain that Humber IT will continue to benefit from this growth in the years to come.
